WeChat Pay rolls out in Malaysia

China’s most popular social media app, WeChat is launching its digital payments platform, WeChat Pay, in Malaysia.

The new platform will allow users to send and receive money to each other, as well as making payments to offline merchants within the country.

Initially, the owner of the WeChat messaging services, Tencent is gifting ‘free money’- virtual money pack worth between $0.95 and $21.70, in the hopes of adding more customers to the 20 million active ones in Malaysia.

The launch marks the first product of the company to be released in Asia outside China and Hong Kong.
