Unsuccessful in keeping up with the competition, Microsoft is shutting down the service of its contactless payments app for Windows phones.

With the Windows 10 Mobile itself closing down by December 2019, the Wallet service will officially retire on 28 February.

Launched in 2016, Microsoft Wallet was intended to provide contactless payment service to its users, similar to Apple Pay and Google Pay.

But, due to its failure to work on all Windows phones and increase in competition, the app failed to receive attention.

The shutdown will not be affecting Microsoft Pay, as it will continue to function as a payment option in Microsoft Edge browser.
